Mission | |||
| Laboratory Company Dance, Inc., (Labco) represents
a company of mature, developed, professional
dancers and choreographers with a collective
group philosophy living in Pittsburgh who
are committed to the creation and presentation
of contemporary dance. Labco was established
as an initiative of Dance Alloy in 1996,
and is now a non-profit organization in its
own right. Labco's mission is to provide an umbrella for local dancers, choreographers, performance artists in order to promote the growth and potential of Pittsburgh's dance community. Labco also provides a home and venue for Pittsburgh's performance artists, teaching artists, visual artists, musicians and technical staff, and Labco works to employ local artists in the production of their own work. |

About the Company | |||
| Labco members have come together from diverse
backgrounds. Company members have self-produced
and performed concerts in New York, Virginia,
Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California,
and Europe. They recognize the importance
of working collectively to share and create
their art form in an environment in which
it is increasingly difficult for the art
of dance to survive. Labco members teach, create, and perform contemporary dance through various programs such as peer taught professional classes held at Dance Alloy studios, and by producing performances in traditional and alternative venues. Labco provides community out-reach programs at local community centers with classes in creative movement for families, networking techniques for artists, performance opportunities for local artists, informal showings of works, and collaborations with local artists. Labco produces performances biannually: a fall and spring concert. |
